The Historic District Commission's primary objective is to preserve and protect the distinctive architectural character of New Haven's Local Historic Districts.

New Haven's Historic District Commission (HDC) was established in June 1970 under Article VI Section 54 of the City of New Haven Zoning Ordinance and other applicable local and state statutes. The Commission consists of five regular members and three alternates. Commissioners are appointed by the Mayor per Article VI Section 54 of the City of New Haven, for a five-year term. Local Historic Districts (LHD) in New Haven

New Haven Board of Elders has established three local historic districts under Article VI Section 54, appendix 54.1-54.3, of City of New Haven Zoning Ordinance:

  • Wooster Square Local Historic District
  • Quinnipiac River Local Historic District
  • City Point Local Historic District
