The City of New Haven has a full-time tax collector that works under the administrative direction of the state Office of Policy and Management and the Controller. The primary responsibility of this position is the billing for and collection of all tax money due to the city.

Taxes

The Second installment of Real Estate, Special Service District, Personal Property, Motor Vehicle and Supplemental Motor Vehicle tax on the Grand List of 2022 are due:

  • January 1, 2024 and payable on or before February 1, 2024
  • Unpaid taxes are delinquent as of February 2, 2024

On that date, interest will be charged from the original due date of January 1, 2024.

Mill Rate

The mill rates for the 2022 Grand List are as follows:

 Real Estate:  37.20 
 Personal Property:  37.20 
 Motor Vehicle:  32.46 

 
Owners of real, personal and motor vehicle property are taxed at a rate of $1 on every $1,000 assessed. Therefore, a real estate property assessed at $10,000 will pay 372.00. Personal property and motor vehicle are computed in the same manner. 

If you received a tax bill for a vehicle not garaged in New Haven as of October 1, 2022, contact the Assessor's Office. 

Any payment made on-line using a credit or debit card/e-check takes 24 to 48 hours to process.
