The city of New Haven highly values our elderly population and is 100% committed to provide quality-of-life support services for its aging population.

The Department of Elderly Services gladly assists those who are 55 and older maintain independence and remain active. We provide case management and assistance referral services for residents with financial, medical, nutritional, legal and housing needs. We operate three senior centers in New Haven.

Seniors are invited to participate in four very special events each year. In May, the Senior Volunteer of the Year luncheon is held. This event honors those that volunteer their time to help our seniors. In August, seniors are invited to the Connecticut Senior Day at Holiday Hill. This outing features many activities and all you can eat and drink throughout the day. In September seniors can go to Connecticut Day at the Big E in Springfield, MA. Luxury motor coaches are provided for transportation. In October, seniors can travel to Bishop Orchards in Guilford, CT for apple-picking and shopping, followed by lunch at the famous Lenny and Joe’s Fish Tale Restaurant.

For more information about services provided by our department, the senior centers, or about opportunities to volunteer as a tutor or in any other capacity, please feel free to contact the senior center of your choice.
