Our events, resources and partnerships connect, inform and unify seaport leaders and maritime professionals who deliver prosperity around the western hemisphere. Today, AAPA continues to promote the common interests of the port community, and provides critical industry leadership on security, trade, transportation, infrastructure, environmental and other issues related to port development and operations.

Tile region encompassing the six New England states east of the Lake Champlain drainage basin.

The New England District of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is responsible for managing the Corps' Civil Works responsibilities in a 66,000-square-mile region encompassing the six New England states east of the Lake Champlain drainage basin.

The region has 6,100 miles of coastline, 13 deep draft commercial waterways, 13 major river basins, and thousands of rivers and streams. Within this area of operations, the Corps has completed hundreds of Civil Works projects that benefit the New England community.

The missions of the New England District are many and varied. They include environmental remediation; flood risk management; natural resource management; streambank and shoreline protection; navigation improvements and maintenance; disaster and emergency assistance; regulatory administration; and engineering and construction management support to other agencies.

The Connecticut Port Authority is a quasi-public agency created through legislation Governor Dannel P. Malloy signed in 2014 that is responsible for marketing and coordinating the development of the state’s ports and maritime economy. The creation of the Connecticut Port Authority represents a major commitment by the Governor and the Assembly to invest in the state’s port infrastructure to create jobs and attract private investment to the state.

The Connecticut Maritime Commission is the primary body within the State of Connecticut to develop and recommend maritime policy to the Governor and the General Assembly. It is responsible for developing and updating a long-term strategic plan for all ports and waterways in the State of Connecticut with a focus on the three deep water ports. Within its purview, the Connecticut Maritime Commission will review, recommend and develop policies as they relate to the maritime sector and Public Act No.04-143. Our goal is to promote ocean commerce in a responsible manner in order to strengthen the US economy and help our communities to prosper.


USCG Search and RescueUnited States Coast Guard Long Island Sector

Coast Guard Sector Long Island Sound was established on May 31, 2005 by consolidating CG Group/MSO Long Island Sound and Coast Guard Group Moriches. CG Sector Long Island Sound performs all of the traditional marine safety duties plus the traditional missions of a Coast Guard Group.

Coast Guard operations for Long Island Sound, including the south shore of Long Island and along coastal Connecticut are coordinated from a single command center located at Sector Long Island Sound, on the eastern side of New Haven Harbor. There are seven stations, three cutters, two ANTs, an MSD, and an SFO that are strategically located throughout the Sound that work for this office. This includes approximately 500 active duty, 200 reservists, and 1200 volunteer CG Auxiliary members.
