City of New Haven Peace Commission

The City of New Haven Peace Commission is a volunteer municipal board whose mission is to foster a culture of peace in New Haven and around the world.

The Commission works with the Board of Alders, Mayor's office, community and youth groups on reducing all forms of violence including war and street violence.

It sponsors annual celebrations of International Day of Peace in September and marks other important days for peace and justice throughout the year.

Members also work in conjunction with the New Haven Board of Education, New Haven Free Public Library and other educational institutions in New Haven to develop youth programming, peace curricula and other educational resources.

The City of New Haven has been named a Peace Messenger City by the United Nations A peace park proclaiming this status is located at Ella Grasso Boulevard and Legion Ave.

Members are appointed by the mayor and must be approved by the Board of Alders.
