Building a Just and Equitable Food System

The Food System Policy Division (FSPD) operates through a food justice framework and across three thematic priorities - health equity, socio-economic justice, and environmental justice.

To enact change, the FSPD works on food policy at all levels that impact New Haven residents: from changing practices within organizations and institutions, to modifying regulations at a city level, to advocating for legislation at a state and federal level, to shaping international agendas.

To learn more about our unique Division, our values, and our community-engaged work, please navigate to foodpolicy.newhavenct.gov.

Please note that we are a municipal division of the City of New Haven and currently have one full-time City-funded Director and one full-time grant-funded Analyst. At this time, all of our projects are entirely grant-funded.

Separate and apart from the Food System Policy Division (FSPD), the New Haven Food Policy Council - which was a group of volunteer residents - is not currently active and has not met since February 17, 2021.
