New Haven Board of Alders - Ward Redistricting

Post Date:05/03/2022 5:25 PM

New Haven’s redistricting occurs when the state assembly districts are changed.

The Board of Alder is required to act within six months of the date such change becomes effective. The redistricting shall be done by ordinance, and the plan of *redistricting* the wards of the City of New Haven may change the boundaries and the number of wards.

If the Board of Alders fails to enact a plan of *redistricting* within six months of the effective date of such change, the Mayor of the City of New Haven appoints a commission of fifteen people to change the boundaries of the wards and to change the number of wards.

Since the General Assembly Districts changed in November, the Board of Alders has until the end of May to approve the new plan.

City residents may forward any redistricting suggestions to publictestimony@newhavenct.gov
