NEW HAVEN REGIONAL FIRE TRAINING SCHOOL TO BE RENAMED AFTER FORMER NEW HAVEN FIRE CHIEF MICHAEL E. GRANT AT CEREMONY

Grant was a decorated 42-year veteran of the New Haven Fire Department, including 10 years as Chief.

NEW HAVEN, CT – Today, Friday, June 16th at 1 pm, Mayor Justin Elicker and Fire Chief John Alston, Jr. will host a ceremony to rename the New Haven Regional Fire Training School to The Michael E. Grant Regional Fire Training School.

Grant joined the New Haven Fire Department in 1972 and was promoted through the ranks over the course of his 42-year career, ultimately serving at the 15th Chief of Department in 2003, a position he held until his retirement in 2013. Part of his career also included serving as Assistant Drillmaster and Drillmaster at the New Haven Fire Academy, where he was directly responsible for the training of several hundred new recruits. Grant received many honors and awards for his exemplary service and bravery, including four Medals of Merit, 23 unit citations, the Medal of Valor, and he was also inducted into the State of Connecticut Firefighters Association Hall of Fame in 2013. Born in New Haven in 1950, Grant passed away at the age of 70 in New Haven in 2021.

Current and retired members of the New Haven Fire Department, the New Haven Board of Fire Commissioners, the International Association of Fire Fighters Local 825, and members of the Grant family will be in attendance and participate in the ceremony. The site is one of the ten fire training academies in the state of Connecticut.
