STATEMENT BY MAYOR JUSTIN ELICKER ON THE TENTH ANNIVERSARY OF THE SCHOOL SHOOTING AT SANDY HOOK ELEMENTARY SCHOOL AND THE SCOURGE OF GUN VIOLENCE TODAY

NEW HAVEN, CT – Mayor Justin Elicker released the following statement on the tenth anniversary of the tragedy at Sandy Hook Elementary School and on the continued scourge of gun violence today:

“The tragedy at Sandy Hook Elementary School was one of the most horrific days in our state’s history and we continue to grieve the loss of the 20 innocent children and the 6 dedicated educators whose lives were cut short so senselessly ten years ago today.

Whether in a school in Newtown or in the streets of New Haven, every life lost to gun violence is one too many, devastating families and communities. Let us honor the victims and stand arm-in-arm with their loved ones by turning pain into purpose and doing everything we can in our actions, in our laws, and in our hearts to end the scourge of gun violence in our city, state, and country.”
